Soon, it was announced Jason Richman would write a part of Beverly Hills Cop IV after he earned enough fame with his rewrites of Bad Company in 2001.

In 2006, producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced that he would not direct the movie series and gave up the passing production duties to Lorenzo Di Bonaventura. After a few months, a script which was a mix-up of some previous drafts presented to Eddie Murphy. He was very happy with the outline of the story.

In May 2014, the deadline was announced, and Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum would be writing for the screenplay. In August 2019, the production of the movie was still going on and it was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Metacritic, the film scored 56 out of 100, not that they use a weighted average system. On Rotten Tomato, it has 66% of 76 critics with an average score of 6.2/10.

Robert Daniels of the New York Times wrote, “This installment is not that much disappointing as its previous movie. This is a desperate action-comedy movie with some memorable moments.”

Brian Tellerico who writes for RogerEbert.com gave three out of four stars and said, “This movie is a great blend of action and comedy which made me shocked because I saw its third part and it was very disappointing.”
