Traffic on the I-5 Freeway experienced significant delays Tuesday night due to a tragic incident involving runaway horses. According to the California Highway Patrol, around 9:00 p.m., three horses were seen running across several lanes of the busy highway near the transition road on the westbound 210 Freeway, close to Newhall Pass.
Two of the horses were struck by a car in the middle lane. One of these horses eventually died in the No. 4 lane, causing further disruptions. The driver involved in the collision managed to pull over to the side of the freeway. Meanwhile, some passersby made efforts to wrangle the third horse, attempting to prevent further accidents.
It remains unclear how the horses managed to get onto the freeway. The incident has raised concerns about safety measures for animals near highways and the potential hazards they pose to drivers. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the horses’ presence on the freeway to prevent future occurrences.
